A: Shanghai has two main train stations:

1. Shanghai Station: the layout of the main hall consists of an elevated railway and two main gates: the North Square and the South Square. There are four exits: the 1st and 2nd South exits, the North exit, and the Subway passage.

2. Shanghai South Station: Almost all the bullte trains which leave Shanghai depart from Shanghai South train station.
Q: Can you tell me about Beijing's train stations?
A: There are three railway stations in Beijing: Beijing Station, Beijing West Station and Beijing South Station.

1. Beijing Station: is located in the center of the city. You can take Subway Line #2 to get there. Exit through Gates C or D. Trains leaving for Shanghai, Suzhou, and Chengde depart from here. Some international trains such as Beijing-Moscow, Beijing-Ulbator, and Beijing-Pyongyang also depart from here.

2. Beijing West Railway Station: is located in the southwest part of the city. It is the biggest railway station in Asia and famous for its Sino-European construction style. There are no subway stations nearby, so you'll have to take a taxi. Trains leaving for Xian, Urumqi, and Hong Kong depart from here.

3. Beijing South Station: is located in the south part of the city. Almost all the bullet train which leave Beijing depart from Beijing South Train Station. This train station is far away from city center. So yu had better ahead for there earlier.
Q: How far in advance should I book an international train ticket?
A:You should make the reservation at least 1 month in advance. When you book an international train ticket, you’ll need to provide your passport number. Obtaining any necessary Visa is your responsibility.
Q:How much luggage can I carry aboard the train?
A:The China Ministry of Railways stipulates that the weight of small luggage that you may carry with you on the train is limited to 20 kilograms (44 pounds). Large baggage exceeding the limit can be checked into the train and the related formalities will need to be transacted at the railway station before your departure.
Q: Do the train stations broadcast in English?
A:The announcements at the train stations are broadcast in Chinese. However, in some big cities like Beijing, Xi'an, and Shanghai, they are also broadcast in English.
Q: Can you explain all the information included on a China train ticket?
A:

Q: How far in advance should I book a domestic (within China) train ticket?
A:It’s the China Railway policy to issue the tickets 10-12 days before departure, so you need to book the tickets at least 20 days in advance. For Chinese festivals such as May Day (May 1st, 3 day holiday), National Day (Oct 1st, 1 week holiday) and Chinese New Year, train ticket demand is extremely high. If you plan on travelling during these times, you should make the reservation as early as possible.
Q: Is there restaurant car on every train?
A: Restaurant cars are provided on all trains except the Ordinary Train. It will be the 10th car. The choice of food however is limited Chinese dishes.
Q:What's the Deluxe Sleeper like?
A:The Deluxe Sleeper is the most expensive, yet most comfortable way to travel overnight. It consists of a clean, comfortable 2-berth cabin and includes a private toilet. The most important trains (Beijing-Shanghai, Beijing-Hong Kong, and Beijing-Xian) as well as some other routes also have the Deluxe Sleeper, but others may not.
Q:What's the Soft Sleeper like?
A:The Soft Sleeper is a comfortable 4-berth closed compartment. Sheets and blankets are provided and are generally of good standard. Washrooms and toilets are located at both ends of the car. The Soft sleeper is recommended for long distance travel.
Q: What's the Hard Sleeper like?
A: The Hard Sleeper has 6-berths (upper, middle, and lower) in one open-planed compartment, the 6-berth on one side of the aisle, with pairs of seats on the other side of the aisle for daytime use. Sheets, pillows and blankets are provided.

Q: What's the Soft Seat like?
A:Though the Soft Seat is more expensive than the Hard Seat, it’s also more comfortable, including more leg room. The car is usually not too crowded.
Q: What's the Hard Seat like?
A:The Hard Seat is the cheapest option, but you get what you pay for as, unlike the Soft Seat, the Hard Seat is not upholstered. These cars tend to be rather crowded and are not always very clean.
Q:What are the different travel options on the trains?
A:Two kinds of seats: Soft and Hard. Three kinds of sleepers: Deluxe, Soft, and Hard.
Q: What are the different types of trains in China?
A: The trains in China are categorized and named according to their speed and comfort. There are 5 different types in China, D (Bullet) Train, Z (Express) Train, T Train, K Train, and Ordinary Train.
